I can't believe it's mid February already. I am usually on my A game when it comes to holidays, but lately I've been flunking. In fact, I just changed my front door wreath from the "January" one to the February heart wreath. In years' past that would have happened on January 31st! Regardless, now love is in the air... or it's at least made it to my front door.
Where did Valentine's Day originate? According to Wikipedia...
"Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. Originating as a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valentinus, Valentine's Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions around the world."
Google it, because there is a long history. Basically it's a day of romance. And now largely associated with gift giving. Hence, my interest since I am after all stuck in retail. And by stuck, I mean, placed in the department store to manage the selling of items perfect for Valentine's Day!
So what is the best Valentine's Day gift you have ever received? I miss the days in school when you made valentine cards for your friends. And then in high school it was like a competition to see who would get the most balloons and flowers delivered. And then in college and marriage number one it was about experiences, fancy dinners, and jewelry! Fast forward to mid forties and now it's about the sweet cards from my son and the inexpensive, yet thoughtful gifts from my husband. This year I'm getting a clean house and car without even nagging. So cool right?!
If you do enjoy material things, which I do, there are some great gift ideas at all the department stores now. And many stores have special events like a GWP (gift with purchase) or complimentary gift wrap and free shipping. This week is a great time to step out of the house, off the computer, and walk into a department store! Browse, shop and have fun! Love is in the air!
